Arnold & Porter’s Chambers/Legal 500 Band 1 (market leading) Government Contracts & National Security team has a broad mix of litigation, investigation, export control, cybersecurity, mergers and acquisition, and counseling work. Some examples of the group’s recent work include: litigating multi-billion dollar, complex contract award challenges for large aerospace and defense companies and handling the negotiation of novel agreements with the government (including OTAs, CRADAs, and TIAs).  We also frequently advise both recipients and subrecipients of grants (including the Inflation Reduction Act and CHIPS Act) in the interpretation of grant requirements and compliance, as well as federal audits, enforcement actions, and other controversies with awarding agencies. The work is exciting, often quite relevant to ongoing world issues, and fast paced. Due to the nature of the work and composition of the group, associates receive significant opportunities for responsibility at a very junior level.

Qualified applicants for this position must have a minimum of one year of prior legal experience in the field and recent clerkship experience for the Court of Federal Claims. Applicants must have a demonstrated interest in government contacts law; academic training in government contracts law; strong research, writing and analytic skills; an ability to work independently and creatively; and an ability to work successfully as part of a team. While we expect the junior associate will be involved in all aspects of the practice, including litigation and investigations, particular consideration will be given to candidates with an interest in and working knowledge of work related to mergers, acquisitions, and other types of transactions involving government contractors (e.g., experience with due diligence, asset and stock purchase agreements, and novations). The Silicon Valley office of Arnold & Porter is seeking a mid-level patent prosecution associate for the Chambers-ranked Intellectual Property Practice Group. 

 Qualified candidates for this position must have a minimum of three years of extensive work experience in the biology, biotechnology, small molecules, or biologics patent prosecution field and a Ph.D. degree in biology, biotechnology, immunology, chemistry, or equivalent technical experience.  Candidates must have experience in both writing original patent applications and prosecuting pending applications.  Candidates preferably should also have experience in working with and supervising patent agents or law clerks and professional staffs in preparing and filing documents at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.  Familiarity with Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) practice is preferred.  All applicants should have excellent academic credentials and references.
