Client Account Manager

The Finance & Accounting Department of Arnold & Porter has a Client Account Manager opening in the Washington, DC office.  This position also may work 100% remote.  The Client Account Manager supervises the client account staff in the processing and preparation of all monthly bills and is responsible for training all facets of billing.  The Client Account Manager reviews non-commercial client accounts to ensure the timely transfer and/or closing of inactive matters and oversees the preparation of various required filings.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Ensuring proper billing training of all Client Account Specialists.
  • Ensuring compliance with all Firm-wide billing policies and procedures and all client outside counsel guidelines that may be in effect.
  • Ensuring the month-end close, selection of the prebills and timely distribution of prebills to billing attorneys.
  • Facilitating prompt return of billing instructions/edits from billing attorneys.
  • Ensuring timely and accurate preparation of client bills and maintaining the prebill status log.
  • Ensuring accurate posting of final bills that have been sent to clients.
  • Responding to requests for information, clarification and special analyses from attorneys and clients.
  • Liaising with the Billing Intake Committee (BIC) with regard to special billing arrangements, write offs, special rates.
  • Ensuring timely submission of requested backup to clients on a monthly basis.
  • Coordinating with Rate Analysts to ensure that special rate tables and volume discounts are updated and maintained accurately.
  • Collaborating with the eBilling team on the maintenance of clients in the eBillingHub and various eBilling vendors.
  • Preparing monthly billing reports on unposted bills and aged work in progress.
  • Establishing effective backup support processes in the billing department to ensure seamless support for all Firm clients.
  • Reviewing non-commercial client accounts to ensure timely transfers and/or closing of inactive matters.
  • Overseeing the preparation and filing of Foreign Agents, Lobbying, US Commerce  and any other required filings.
  • Informing the Director of Billing and Collections of all billing issues and offer potential solutions.
  • Ensuring expertise in technology relevant to the position; proactively using the most current technology to further teamwork, client service, and efficiency. 
  • Participating on projects that increase the value of services to clients, attorneys, timekeepers and the Firm.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of legal client billing experience.
  • Prior supervisory and effective leadership experience.
  • High level of business acumen and ability to multi-task.
  • Possess exceptional judgement and professionalism.
  • Ability to assess pertinent information, anticipate issues and outcomes, and make effective decisions.
  • Ability to prepare accurate, highly detailed work product.
  • Talent for delivering client service through teamwork, training and mentoring.
  • Ability to exchange information and to present ideas, report facts and other information clearly and concisely and demonstrate strategic focus.
  • Ability to manage large amounts of paper and electronic data.

The anticipated base salary for this position is $100,000 to $165,000. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.

The firm may provide a discretionary bonus annually.
